Children's Magazines... Get Reading!

October is, among other things, Children's Magazine Month!
When I was a little kid, my mom got my brother and I a subscription to Highlights Magazine. I used to look forward to my issue appearing in the mail each month, full of stories and games. to this day, I still love magazines... but now I prefer Reader's Digest and whatnot!
If you want to encourage a special child in your life to read more, a great way to do this is to get them their very own magazine subscription!
When I was a kid, Highlights was pretty much the only magazine available for kids... but now, there are tons of magazines to choose from!

What a great list. I totally agree and want to let you know about another magazine for preschoolers (2-6 years) called The Tessy & Tab Reading Club. It's a magazine that arrives 2 times a month that focuses on providing a format that preschoolers can follow without parent direction. The program also provides tools to help parents work with their child to develop the Six Early Literacy Skills children should learn before learning to read. I am a co-founder and we've been publishing the magazine out of Portland Oregon for over 5 years! You can find us at www.tessyandtab.com.

OMG I heart Highlights! I had forgotten all about the mag until I became a mom myself -- and was able to find a copy of the magazine in my doctor's office!
